Aryeh Shander, M.D. is the Chief of the Department of Anaesthesiology, Critical Care Medicine, Pain Management and Hyperbaric Medicine at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center in Englewood, NJ. He is also Clinical Professor of Anaesthesiology & Medicine at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, and Executive Medical Director of the New Jersey Institute for the Advancement of Bloodless Medicine and Surgery Program at Englewood Hospital.

Dr. Shander lectures nationally and internationally on a variety of topics related to blood conservation, volume resuscitation, acute anemia therapy, "blood substitutes", surgical blood management, acute normovolemic hemodilution and bloodless medicine and surgery. His publications have appeared in The Lancet, Transfusion, and Transfusion Alternatives in Transfusion Medicine, for which he serves on the Editorial and Scientific Board. He is the author of book chapters and contributes to textbooks on blood management. Dr. Shander is a reviewer for Chest Journal and Transfusion.

Dr. Shander is a fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine and the American College of Chest Physicians. He is a founding member of the Society for the Advancement of Blood Management (SABM), and the American Society of Critical Care Anaesthesiologists (ASCCA) where he serves on committees, both locally and nationally. Dr. Shander is a member of the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), American Society of Anaesthesiologists (ASA), the Society for Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) and the National Anemia Action Council (NAAC) where he also serves as the Secretary, Treasurer. In 1997 Dr. Shander was recognized by Time magazine as one of America's "Heroes of Medicine".

Dr. Shander received his medical degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine in Burlington and completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, New York, where he also served as Chief Resident. Additional postgraduate training included a fellowship in critical care medicine and a residency in anaesthesiology, both at Montefiore Medical Center.
