Many people object to receiving blood or blood products as part of their medical treatment. Some, such as Jehovah's Witnesses, object out of religious beliefs, while others do so as a result of healthcare concerns or other personal convictions. It is the policy of Englewood Hospital and Medical Center to provide our patients with a wide range of technologies designed to minimize blood loss and maximize the oxygen carrying capabilities of the blood.

Established in 1994, The NJ Institute has provided medical care to over 20,000 patients from the U.S. and abroad. A medical staff of over 200 physicians from every discipline has been specially trained and practice bloodless medicine and surgical techniques. Additionally, 25 medical and surgical specialties including Anesthesiology, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Hematology, Infectious Disease, Neurology, Pediatrics, and Vascular Surgery, utilize The NJ Institute's "no blood transfusion" philosophy.

Highly complex procedures such as brain surgery, open-heart surgery, liver tumor removal, prostate, vascular, gynecological, and gastrointestinal surgery have all been successfully performed without blood transfusions at The NJ Institute.

Many patients have been transferred here from other medical institutions which were unable to meet patients' requests for bloodless care.
